The New Town of Prague (Nove Mesto in Czech) used to be the largest and youngest part of the city till 1784. It was founded by Charles VI in 1348 south of the Old Town just outside the city walls.

In Prague New Town there are many Gothic and Baroque churches also as secular and educational buildings but the main tourist attraction of the New Town is the Wenceslas Square:

The Wenceslas Square (Vaclavske Namesti in Czech) was originally built as a horse-market now functions as a center of commerce, culture and tourism it's named after Saint Wenceslas (also known abroad as King Wenceslas ), the patron saint of Bohemia.

The Wenceslas Square has a rectangular shape and includes at it's southern end the Czech National Museum and borders in the south the Old Town .
